How to remove background | Clipping Masking

This is the most helpful skill you can learn using Photoshop to remove the background from an image. This will allow you to stick the subject in any photos you want, without having to worry about blending backgrounds, or dealing with large expanses of plain white. There are a few ways to remove the background of an image, it depends the complexity of background. Lets try..............

1. Open image in Photoshop: This is the best way to work if background is solid colour.


2. Go to layer window: This is normally located on the middle and right side of the photoshop 

program. And usually unedited images have only one layer named as background, press the right button on the layer and choose “layer from background”. It will create a new layer.  Leave the option at their press Ok. “Background” it will change into layer 0.


3. Select the magic tool: You can find this tool in the tool menu. To get this tool press the eraser tool icon and select the eraser tool from the menu.


4. Manage the magic eraser toll setting: When you select the magic eraser toll you will find a setting in the top menu bar, and adjust it. Follow the direction below.
·         Set tolerance from 20-30, a poor tolerance helps to keep parts of the original image from being erased for using the tool.

Manage them to look them similar.

·  Check the contiguous box.

·         Set opacity 100%


5. Click on the background: This tool will remove the entire colour where you click and turning it into transparent background. The tolerance level will affect how many related colour is removed as well.


6. Can do any adjustment: If you were deleting a solid-colour background, it should be almost completely erased in one click. You may need to zoom in and make minor adjustments with the Eraser tool.


7. Select your object: Once you happy with the removal of the background, you can also use lasso toll to draw a rough outline around the object. For short cut press Ctrl+Shift+J to create a “New Layer via Cut” it will help to place your object on a separate layer from the old background.  You can delete the background now “layer 0”.

8. Save your image: You have an object with a transparent background which can overlay any other existing image.
